Leadership

Definition: The action of someone guiding a group of people or organization.

I'm been having a hard time expressing my thoughts about leadership. As of right now I don't see myself as a leader. However, I've held leadership positions through PeaceJam in high school; but I think it's more than that. It was just the beginning of my leadership experience. I kind of don't want to talk about that, but I am forever grateful that I had an opportunity to be involved with PeaceJam, an AMAZING organization that made an impact on my life.

I want to show you how I see leadership in my point of view by music, quotes, and images/gifs.

Let music guide you to a positive direction!

Puzzle

Definition: To feel confused due to not understanding or make sense of something (v).

Life is kind of a one big puzzle. Every single day in our life, we are figuring out something. Whether it's a math problem or if the suspected killer really did committed the murder. There's always something going on. We do this because we are confused, hence the definition. As of right now, I think the purpose of the word puzzle is to help us grow. To think outside of the box. To be open-minded. That is why there is always more than one solution to one problem. Do you watch Grey's Anatomy? Every now and then surgeons would receive a difficult case, so difficult that the whole team (doctors from almost every specialty) is gathered around to safe this patient's life. First thing they do is review the patient's file and then brain storm on types of operations/techniques that they would passionately believe it would be the best chance to perform on the patient safely. This is when chaos starts to rise because the doctors brainstorm different techniques, which leads to disagreements. This may not be great, but it's good in a way because they thought outside of the box. I mean this dream team is known for operating crazy-intense surgeries.

Back to the purpose of the word puzzle, which was to help us grow. We get puzzled because we're supposed to get stuck. That's part of life. Life is not supposed to be easy. To live an easy life is not to think deeper. If your life has been easy, then I think you're living life the wrong way (no worries, I could be wrong). Why would you want live the easy way? How could you learn from that lifestyle? I'm curious. To make life meaningful, it's more than live, laugh, and love. It's important to include failure, all types of emotions, curiosity, skepticism, and I'm sure there are more words that should be included. This maybe hard, but that's okay. You're capable of doing things. I believe that if God knew that I wasn't capable of a doing a certain thing, then he wouldn't have put that certain thing in my life. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I survived high school, so ha! I'm stronger than I was before. It's actually hard to believe that there was a time where I thought I couldn't take the mainstream idea of high school anymore because I was just sick of everything that I was going through at that time. To stay in topic, I was puzzled about why this was happening. If only I dug a little deeper.. Little did I knew that the things that were happening was preparing me for life after high school. Life can be funny sometimes. Of course I'm still struggling.. It's life. It's bound to happen. I must remind myself what are main goals are, I must be kind to people, I must be my true self, I must focus on people that care about me. Oh look, it's not that puzzling anymore.

As always it's okay to be puzzled. When that happens, ask for help. Ask family, friends, guidance counselor, therapist, etc. If there's something that you don't get perhaps, this upcoming election (yikes) or an controversial topic then ask someone to explain it in an unbiased way. Be respectful. There's always something good coming out the puzzled state of mind. Learning new things is a blessing.

My Favorite songs from May + June 2016

I love music. My love for music is too much for someone who has never been to a concert before. Spotify will have to do for now, which isn't bad at all. Spotify is one the greatest innovations. I really do enjoy sharing music to people! Every month, I will try to post at least 10-12 songs from my long listing playlist on here. Believe it or not, but this will be hard because there just so many songs to pick from. Follow my Spotify to checkout my past and upcoming playlists!

Disclaimer: The music video for Song #2 could be disturbing for you to watch. However, in my opinion the content/story does makes sense in a way that relates to the song.

College: My Freshman Year Reflection + Advice

Over two months ago, I officially ended my first year of college. I still find this crazy. As always I have learned so much since the beginning of my first and this semester. I would like to share my personal and learning experience.

Education

One thing that I learned that is important to remember is College is what you make of it. Life after high school is literally freedom. Once you graduate high school, you finally get to create the life you want to live (my point of view). I decided to go to community college! I think the best part of college is getting to decide what you want to study and only taking the types of classes that are required for you major/minor, but minus the random introduction classes (it depends). Keep in mind that it is perfectly okay if you have no idea what you want to do for a living. I would recommend community college if you're in that boat, so that you can take introduction classes at a lower tuition price. However, community college is still a great idea even if you know what career you want to pursue in. I just love the idea that we get to choose the teachers and the classes we want to take! The classes I took this year were English Composition 1 and 2, Intermediate Algebra, Intro to Sociology, and College Algebra (I just finished taking General Chemistry 1 and lab). I enjoyed taking these classes, especially English and Sociology because those classes are definitely going to be useful in life. Writing is an essential skill that everyone should have and it is important be aware about the world and society overall. Of course my math classes will be useful soon for the higher-level classes that I'm planning to take in the upcoming semesters.

I will always be proud to say that I have improved 10000 times better than last year. I finished this school year stronger than ever with a 4.0 GPA. Last summer, I discovered a community on tumblr, called Studyblr. From my understanding, a studyblr is basically a type of blog (tumblr) filled with people's posts that have to do with any types of education, you name it! You'll come across people's school notes, sometimes assignments, helpful study tips, dose of inspiration and motivation, etc. It is a lifesaver. I have received several ideas on how I should study the right way and be a successful student. I recommend to check it out. I even made one! I would say that studyblr is almost like a guidebook. I love it and will hopefully be using my studyblr more often.

Learning About Myself

I want to get back to the important saying, College is what you make of it. GUYS, now is the time to live life. Do what will make you happy and satisfied. TRY not to have regrets. Make it your priority to try new things, such as a hobby and an adventure. It is a fact that college is where you should step out of your comfort zone. It is one of the best and effective ways to learn about yourself. I have to confess that I am very poor about doing all of these things, but I am nowhere giving up. I have somewhat accepted that my freshman year did not end perfectly, but as always, it gets better. I am so ready to conquer my second year of college and learn even more about myself. After all I am turning 20 in like 3 months. This is only the beginning.

Friendship

It is so important to make an effort in your friendships. I am not the best at this, but I've been trying. Keep in mind, only make an effort if they are also doing the same thing. You deserve to be with people that care about you and are willing to be there for you when you are in need. I learned that it is normal and okay for high school friendships to not to last after high school. We grow. It's life. If you ever see them, just be friendly.

When it comes friendships, you want the relationship to be healthy, positive, inspiring, motivating, etc. People that will lift you higher and be there for your ups and downs. I would keep my circle of friends really small. Quality over Quantity. As always it's up to you how many friends you want to have. You want friends that makes you forget to check the time on your phone because y'all were in an in-depth conversation. That conversation was too important to for you to glance over your phone.
I learned this last year, but I thought this was still relevant. If you're in a group of friends that don't make you be in a happiness state of mind and feel left out, try to talk to them. Tell them how you feel and just maybe they will do something about it. If the situation is still occurring, then they are not your true friends. Leave them. You deserve better. You will meet better people.

I'm not the best at meeting people for the first time. I still hope to be the type of people that can just walk up to a random person and start a conversation with them. It is such a valuable skill. I want to be a people person. My problem is that I don't put any effort. My shyness and fear of rejection.. ugh. I understand I'm not alone in this, but it feels like it. I want to do something about this. I want to be confident. I'm realizing that I should focus on myself instead of forcing and seeking friendships. I need to love myself before I love others (all types of love). Once I have accepted myself, I should be glowing and be filled with joy and be in a positive state of mind. Of course, only for that mindset to last for a long time, I need to maintain it. Everything in moderation. I need to make a change in my lifestyle. I deserve better for myself. Once that happen, people will gradually come into my life.

As I mentioned before, my freshman year was a learning experience. Of course every year is a learning experience no matter the age I turn. You learn something new every single day, whether you notice it or not. To compare this freshman year to freshman year from high school, it's a beautiful progress. I think that's what matters the most. You want your present or recent past to be better than the old past. That's true progress.

Come at me sophomore year. I'm ready for ya.

Advice

Definition: An opinion or suggestion what someone should do.

There's nothing wrong with asking for advice. It's a way to gain a new perspective. Whenever I feel lost or stuck,  I ALWAYS ask for advice, whether it's related to my family or even school. I normally ask my small circle of friends that I trust 100%. As soon as I rant my soon-to-be silly problems, they usually know the type of situation that I'm going through. They had either dealt with it or seen it on Freeform (r.i.p. abc family). To ask for advice, you must be open-minded. It's okay to not to use the advice that you're given. Just appreciate the fact that you have people in your life that are willing to take their time out of their busy life to help you deal with your problem.

It's 2016 and so far technology has been better than ever. Going to a person doesn't always have to be an option, Perhaps, more solutions to your problems are needed. Well my friends, there's always the good ole' internet. My personal favorite is Youtube. Type in the word advice in their search engine and different types of advice will pop up. There are more than a million videos out there just waiting to be watched. Give it a try. These are my favorite advice videos: Lauren, Katy, and Meghan.

It's very important to know that if you're not able to find a person to ask for advice, it doesn't mean that you're alone. Never. I bet someone in this crazy-drama-filled world is either going or went through the same or similar situation as you. If the internet isn't an option for you, there's always those special places that are filled with books and magazines. The library or bookstore. It has to be one of my favorite places ever. There are several periodicals about friendships, love, family, etc that could possibly help you. I really enjoy reading self-help books and memoirs. Let me know if you have a favorite! I'm always wanting to read more types of these books. I love learning new ideas about life.

Weekly Motivation Number Nine

I still can't believe that just last week I finished my freshman year. I am so proud to announce that I finished my second semester strong with a 4.0 GPA. I was actually surprised that I aced my College Algebra class because I was worried about the final. I kept on missing couple of questions on the practice exam and as for the actual exam, some questions were a bit confusing. All I can say is start studying early, use all types of study aids, and just be prepared. Have some faith in yourself and know what you are doing. Don't forget to check your work (for math exams) and answers again. Your final is not a race and it's especially not going to determine whether or not you fail at life. You are more than just your grades and gpa. Give all you got. Lastly, if you don't get the grade you want, then work harder next year. Don't give up on your ideal gpa. Good luck!
